Many people, including James Miller, are sloppy about backing up important files.
The Auto Backup/FTP program was originally written for two purposes :-
- To make sure that James Miller backed-up his important files.
- To constantly copy an important database in a customer's system every time it changed.
This application was interesting, in that a company had an awful system written in Clipper, which could not be updated. Reporting was performed by copying the database to a normal Windows PC and then running a program every time it changed!
It has now grown to a precise system, that can copy sets of files from one location to another at predetermined times and frquencies.
The destination location should be on another drive or computer for security reasons, but Auto Backup/FTP allows the location to be date or time-related, thus allowing weekly and monthly sequencies of backups to be created automatically.
